Volunteer Opportunities:

Classroom aide - Our classes are held Tuesday –Thursday from 9-12:30.  The teacher has the lessons planned for our adult students with disabilities, but it would be extremely helpful for the students to have more one-on-one help reviewing and emphasizing what the teacher taught.  This would need to be a weekly commitment of 2 hours at least 1 day per week (more would obviously be wonderful).  This is a great opportunity for retired educators and/or college students, but there are no special skills required except for patience and understanding.

Administrative volunteer - We truly believe that as a nation we use more paper being "paperless" than we did before there was such a thing.  We could use a consistent volunteer (at least once a week) to help out with filing, scanning, and creating client binders as well as light receptionist duties.

Weekend Retreat Activities coordinator - Once a month we host a weekend retreat for our clients with disabilities giving them the opportunity to experience time away with their peers and giving their caregivers some much needed time to rejuvenate and have a respite from the constant demands of care giving.  During these weekend retreats, particularly on Saturday, we need a coordinator to assist in the  leisure activities designed to keep the campers engaged.

Summer Camp volunteer - The Summer Camp usually in July in Pinecrest Retreat Center in Moscow, TN.  Campers enjoy a variety of recreational activities including water fun, arts and crafts, entertainment, making tie-dye items, volleyball, dancing, Zumba, swimming in our huge pool;  eating great food (even when their parents say they won't).  Another adventure is hiking, learning more about independence, making s'mores, hanging out by the campfire, and much more.  Also, they make life-long friends!  What more could you want from a week at summer camp?  As a volunteer you would help coordinate some of the activities.  This could be a come and go experience or you could stay for the night or week...depending on your interest level

Gala committee - We are already working on 2016 Gala and would like to have you as an integral part of planning the event.  Please let us know if you have an interest in being on the Gala committee.  Between now and gala time we'll meet every couple of months, then more frequently closer to time.  It is not a huge investment of time, but would be greatly appreciated.

Wheelchair Basketball Tournament - The event will be in March, 2016 in conjunction with National Disabilities Awareness month.  We could use some help contacting potential teams (typically corporations whose employees play - we have a list of teams, and sponsors promoting the event or on the day of the event in concessions and ticketing.

Please contact our office at (901) 327-2473 to hear more information about our volunteer opportunities.
