Actively participating in the United Way of the Mid-South (UW)’s annual campaign clearly reminded The Arc Mid-South of the reciprocal nature between our agency and theirs. Lisa Bingham, a Fed-Ex Loaned Executive (LE), and the guest speaker, Latorrias McGhee of the Shelby County Pre-Trial Services, had us contemplate the ways we can be ‘touched’ by UW in a wide array of areas… from caring for an elderly family member, to navigating through the court system, to supporting drug or alcohol rehabilitation. Ultimately, they stressed the importance of helping our fellow community members. Paris Wilson, a student at The Arc Mid-South, also spoke to us about her personal experiences with The Arc Mid-South and how we helped her get on and stay on her feet. She asserted that it was through the collaboration between The UW and The Arc Mid-South where she found the support to be both the person and mother she wants to be.
Our campaign included great events like ‘Breast Cancer Awareness Day’ in which we all donned pink and purchased ‘pink’ items like pink cake, pink cookies, and pink icebox pie; ‘Jersey Day’ where we supported our favorite teams by wearing their jersey/colors; and our finale, ‘ Arc Idol Talent Show’ which was held at Christ United Methodist Church.
Thank you to everyone who came and supported us for our United Way Campaign. It is much appreciated!
